DAY 3, Singles - October 3: USA captain Davis Love III lifted the Ryder Cup trophy after his charges claimed a 17-11 victory over Europe. Team Europe failed in their bid for a final-day rally and were always chasing the game after their 0-4 defeat in the early foursomes round on Friday.

The duel between Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed was the most-anticipated of the singles clashes but it fizzled out in the end as McIlroy lost steam. Reed, who was the star of the USA charge, kept his momentum to defeat the Northern Irishman 1 up. USA claimed 7.5 points in the singles while Europe only managed 4.5.

Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia played the game of the day on Sunday as they banged in 19 birdies between them for a half point each. "To shoot nine-under and end up tying the match, it's obviously heartbreaking," said Garcia. "I gave it everything I had. I don't think I could have done anything differently. Phil just made it from everywhere and played well."

Belgian Ryder Cup debutant Thomas Pieters was undoubtedly the player of the weekend as he became the first European rookie to win four points on his first appearance. Pieters paired with Rory McIlroy to win three points in the foursomes and fourballs before beating JB Holmes 3 and 2 in the singles.

DAY 2, October 1: Patrick Reed played superb golf all day and proved to be the star of the USA's fightback after their lull during their foursomes. Reed fired off six birdies and an eagle in the fourball as he partnered with Jordan Spieth again. They defeated Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson 2&1 after earlier halving their match with Sergio Garcia and Rafael Cabrera-Bello. USA take a 9.5 to 6.5 lead in the singles.

The partnership of Rory McIlroy and Thomas Pieters proved highly successful on the second day of play as they won both their foursomes and fourball matches. They beat Rickie Fowler and Phil Mickelson in the morning and claimed Europe's only point in the fourballs against Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson.

Brandt Snedeker and Brooks Koepka claimed the only full point for the USA in the morning foursomes as they defeated Henrik Stenson and Matt Fitzpatrick 3&2. Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth won a half point against Sergio Garcia and Rafael Cabrero-Bello while Europe claimed the remaining 2.5 points in their fightback.

Day 1, September 30: Fourballs - Team Europe has a fight on their hands after their trouncing in the foursomes but Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson led the day 1 fightback as they defeated Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed in the afternoon fourballs. Europe clawed back three out of four games to get some points on the board.

Veteran Sergio Garcia and rookie Rafael Cabrero Bello continued the fight as they beat J.B. Holmes and Ryan Moore 3 & 2. In the only match that went USA's way in the fourballs, Brandt Snedeker and Brooks Koepka thrashed Martin Kaymer and Danny Willett 5 & 4. Europe fought back to 5-2 down from 4-0 down.

DAY 1, September 30: Morning foursomes - Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar thrashed Lee Westwood and Thomas Pieters 5 & 4 to set the tone for the first morning out on the course. The USA came out with intent while Europe seemed to lack the intensity needed for the Ryder Cup.

Zach Johson and Jimmy Walker handed out the second-biggest defeat of the morning as they beat Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer 4 & 2. The pair followed up the solid work laid by the other teams and ensured a four-nil USA sweep of the foursomes.

OPENING CEREMONY, September 29 - The Ryder Cup teed off with a spectacular opening ceremony which included a tribute to late golf great Arnold Palmer as well as musical performances and a jet flyover. The pairings were announced at the end of the ceremony.

Europe captain Darren Clarke has emphasised his 'shoulder-to-shoulder' unity approach to the Ryder Cup. He called on Ireland rugby great Paul O'Connell to address his team in a bid to get them fired up ahead of the start of the tournament. Clarke is assisted by vice-captains Thomas Bjorn (DEN), Padraig Harrington (IRE), Paul Lawrie (SCO), Ian Poulter (ENG) and Sam Torrance (SCO).

USA captain Davis Love III has taken a number approach to the Ryder Cup, working with a bunch of statisticians to get the 'moneyball' team together. He's also worked hard to establish more of a family environment in the team. He has Jim Furyk, Tom Lehman, Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods as assistant captains.
