Inaugural Athletics World Cup live on SuperSport

South Africa is among the top eight track-and-field nations that will descend upon London this weekend to contest the inaugural Athletics World Cup.

The World Cup is a two-day event featuring the top eight-ranked nations in the world. Rankings were determined by team performance at the 2017 World Championships.

Sprint powerhouses the USA and Jamaica, along with SA, hosts Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Poland, China, France and Germany make up the eight who’ll be vying for glory at the London Stadium.

Both days of the event will be broadcast live on SuperSport 8HD and Maximo from 8pm (CAT).

The participating nations will each enter one athlete (male and female) in all eight field events and in the 100m to 1500m plus the 4x100m and 4x400m relays track events. At stake is $2-million team prize money, a platinum trophy and team medals. Individual gold, silver and bronze medals will also be awarded per event.

Track and field superstars who’ll be looking to propel their countries to world cup glory include the South African duo of Caster Semenya and Luvo Manyonga, Elaine Thompson and Fedrick Dacres from Jamaica, Poland’s Anita Wlodarczyk and Sam Kendricks from the USA.
