Crawford dominates and wins in nine

Terrence Crawford completely dominated Jeff Horn to win the WBO welterweight belt at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

The 30-year-old Crawford, a former WBA and IBF junior-welterweight champion, moved up in weight to take on the bigger Horn for the WBO belt.

He was in control throughout, before referee Robert Byrd stepped in to stop the fight at 2 minutes 33 seconds into the ninth round.

Early in the fight Crawford proved to be the more skilled fighter as he picked off Horn with his jab.

Crawford had no problems with the higher weight class and his timing and speed was just too much for the defending champion.

As the fight progressed, the rather desperate Horn, 30, tried to barge his way in without success.

By round eight Crawford was in complete control as he continued to pepper Horn with combinations.

Horn was put down in the ninth round but got up quickly.

Crawford continued to punish him and it came as no surprise when the referee called the fight off.

Crawford improved his record to 33-0; 24, and Horn’s record dropped to 18-1-1; 12.

Before the stoppage Horn had not won a round. Crawford was 80-72 ahead on all three judges’ scorecards going into the ninth round.

The judges were Burt A. Clements, Guido Cavalleri and Adam Height.
