Dalakian wins in eight

Artem Dalakian retained the WBA flyweight belt when he stopped Sirichai Thaiyen in the eighth round on Sunday at the Parkovy Convention Centre in Kiev, Ukraine.

Dalakian, 17-0; 12, who was making his first defence of the belt was in complete control and dominated Thaiyen, 50-4; 35, throughout.

The champion scored knockdowns in rounds five and six and when he knocked the challenger down again in the eighth round, the referee waved the fight off. Time was 2:54.

Dalakian won the vacant belt in February this year when he beat veteran Brian Viloria by a wide margin over twelve rounds.

Thaiyen suffered his first defeat since December 2014 when he was stopped in the fifth round by Juan Carlos Reveco in a challenge for the WBA flyweight belt.

The other main organisation champions are WBC, Cristofer Rosales (Nicaragua) and WBO, Sho Kimura (Japan). The IBF belt is vacant.
