Berchelt wins in three

WBC junior-lightweight champion Miguel Berchelt smashed former champion, Jonathan Víctor Barros, to defeat in three rounds and retain his 130-pound world title belt at the Poliórum Zamná in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico on Saturday night.

Berchelt 34-1; 30 was in control from the opening bell and dropped Barros with a left hook near the end of round two.

Barros 41-6-1; 22 managed to beat the count but was once again knocked down in the third round as his corner came into the ring to stop their fighter from further punishment. Time was 1 minute 53 seconds. This was Berchalt’s third successful defence

Berchalt is now scheduled to defend against his mandatory challenger Miguel Roman 60-12; 47 of Mexico. Berchelt won the WBC belt in January 2017 when he stopped Francisco Vargas and then made successful defences against Takashi Miura and Maxwell Awuku.
