Ramirez retains belt in poor fight

WBO super-middleweight champion Gilberto Ramirez retained his belt with a twelve round unanimous points decision over Roamer Alexis Angulo from Colombia in a poor fight at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Saturday night.

The scores 120-108 and 119-109 twice.

Ramirez 38-0; 25 from Mexico who was making the fourth defence of his belt did not win the fight by such wide margins and many at ringside felt that a four or five point margin would have been more accurate.

Even though the champion won the fight he was made to miss badly by Angulo 23-1; 20 who countered at every opportunity. The challenger however, did not throw enough punches in some rounds, otherwise he could have won the fight and unfortunately, did not look in good enough shape to apply constant pressure.

Angulo who is listed at number eight in the WBO rankings stunned the champion on occasions in the first two rounds and when he threw punches he hurt Ramirez. There was no doubt that Ramirez won the fight but he gave away at least four rounds.

On this performance Ramirez would battle against the other main organisation champions. The other main organisation champions are WBC, David Benavidez, WBA, George Groves and IBF, James DeGale.
