Zeuge defends WBA 'regular' belt against Fielding

Liverpool’s Ricky Fielding has high hopes of dethroning WBA “regular” super-middleweight champion Tyron Zeuge when he travels to Germany to challenge the champion on Saturday at the Baden-Arena in Offenburg, Germany.

Fielding, 30, who has a record of 26-1; 14 made his pro debut in September 2010 and won the vacant Commonwealth super-middleweight title in September 2013 with a first-round technical knockout against Mohammed Akrong (19-5).

His only loss came in November 2015 against Callum Smith (17-0) who stopped him at 2 minutes 45 seconds into the first round, in a clash for the British and WBC silver super-middleweight titles.

Since that setback he has won five fights, which included a first-round technical knockout win in two and a half minutes over David Brophy (19-1-1) in a clash for the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles.

The 26-year-old Zeuge won the WBA belt with a 12-round stoppage win over Giovanni De Carolis in November 2016 and has made successful defences against Isaac Ekpo on two occasions and Paul Smith.

This is a tough one for Fielding meeting the champion in front of a partisan crowd with the champion a 3 to 1 and 4 to 1 favourite on some betting sites.

The rangy Fielding, who is listed at number four in the latest WBA ratings ,has power with a 52 percent knockout ratio, but he could have problems against the champion who also has a 52 percent knockout ratio and a slick defence.

The main organisation super-middleweight champions are WBA Super champion, George Groves, WBC, David Benavidez, WBO Gilberto Ramirez and IBF, vacant.
