Davids backs Ndlovu for young player award

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids has backed midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu to win the Absa Premiership Player of the Season prize after a string of excellent performances this campaign.

The 21-year-old Ndlovu, who on Tuesday was named in the Bafana Bafana squad by coach Stuart Baxter, has been a revelation, according to Davids.

“I don’t see anyone really challenging Ndlovu for the award,” Davids said. “It’s unbelievable what he has achieved so far. Talking of men against boys, with him it shows with his understanding of the game, when to slow it down, when to pick up the pace.

“His understanding of the game, his reading of the game, tactically you give him any instruction and he takes it to a tee. We should be thinking about him moving all the way to Europe.”

It is not just Davids who is a fan, Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic recently compared Ndlovu to N’Golo Kante of Chelsea.

“I like to look around the world when I compare our local players to be the best, and Ndlovu reminds me of N’Golo Kante of Chelsea,” Sredojevic said.

“His work-rate, his tackles and everything about him is the same. He is a young player that is improving.”
