Dikwena out to sink Chiefs hopes

Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they welcome Platinum Stars on Sunday afternoon in the Absa Premiership at FNB Stadium.

Kick-off is at 3:00pm.

Amakhosi were on fire against Free State Stars a week ago as they rallied to bag a 1-0 win away to raise their title ambitions.

However, heading to their home clash to Chippa United, they failed to show up as they displayed a different performance from the one against Ea Lla Koto.

As a result, Steve Komphela’s men succumbed to a 3-0 loss at the Calabash and their title hopes were left in tatters.

The loss left scars on the club’s supporters who reacted to the loss with objects pelted at the players and the coach.

As they sit at the fourth spot with 39 points and left with four matches to wrap up their campaign, the Soweto giants will want to finish on a high.

In the reverse fixture in Phokeng, Chiefs claimed a win and will hope to do so at home, but the coach will have to work on his players’ mentality after a rough afternoon at home.

Looking at Dikwena, they are motivated after a gutsy display at home to Polokwane City last Saturday.

A 2-0 win over Rise and Shine in Rustenburg has definitely boosted Stars as they want to evade the relegation axe.

However, one may argue that the win came too late as their games are getting fewer, but they will aim for a spot in the play-offs.

On the log table, Roger De Sa’s troops sit 16th with 21 points from 26 league matches.

What the teams are saying:

Kaizer Chiefs defender Philani Zulu:

“It was a difficult week for us, losing to Chippa the way we did,” Zulu said.

“We have put it in the past and we are looking to the next game against Platinum Stars on Sunday. The guys have kept the spirit going and we are trying to motivate one another.

"The meeting was much needed because we needed to regroup as a team and try find a way to pick ourselves up after that slump. It really helped the team because it brought us all together.

“This all falls on our shoulders and we are ready to keep fighting – we have not given up. Our heads are not down, that’s the way it should be.

“You win some and lose some, it just depends on how you keep on fighting.”

Platinum Stars coach Roger De Sa:

“I just hope we can learn from this win and put up another four good performances like the one on Saturday,” said De Sa.

“It was a massive performance. I thought all 11 players were out there doing their jobs. Everybody played well.

“We play Kaizer Chiefs away and that is going to be a very difficult task. It’s good for us that we won, but we are going to face a wounded Chiefs which is not going to be easy.

“I think Chiefs will roll their sleeves up and they are going to come out to fight. When Chiefs are good they are really good and we have probably got to be even better than we were against Polokwane City.

“Hopefully we can put on another good performance.”
