Baroka sign Ubuntu forward Chivaviro

National First Division side Ubuntu Cape Town have confirmed they have sold star striker Ranga Chivaviro to Absa Premiership Baroka FC.

The club said in a statement on Tuesday that the 25-year-old would be making the step up to the top division after netting 13 goals in all competitions last season, despite missing the final two months of the campaign.

“I’m really excited for Ranga’s move,” said Ubuntu Cape Town coach Casey Prince. “Ranga was a big part of our success last year and we’re thankful for his efforts.

“Ranga was interested in improving and growing his game so that he could go to the next level. I personally enjoyed spending time with Ranga off the field. He’s a man of character, faith, and integrity which will make him a valuable member of the team at Baroka.”

Chivaviro has not played in the top-flight before, having made his NFD debut with Witbank Spurs in the 2013/14 season.

He spent three seasons there before a move to Cape Town All Stars, where he also battled for game-time.

His fortunes changed when he switched to FC Cape Town for the 2016/17 season, and was the star of the show when the club’s status was sold to form Ubuntu Cape Town ahead of last season.

Overall he has 28 goals in 73 starts for his various clubs in all competitions.

Baroka last week announced the arrival of two more forwards, Emmanuel Letlotlo, on loan from Kaizer Chiefs, and the more experienced David Zulu.

Chivaviro’s signing brings to 12 the number of new players confirmed at the club in this transfer window, with Zimbabwe goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, Namibia international left-back Ananias Gebhardt, who was previously with Jomo Cosmos, Burundian attacking midfielder Hussein Shabani from Rayon Sports and Botswana playmaker Orebotse Mongae from Miscellaneous FC also signing.

Other local players arriving are Tshidiso Patjie and Bheki Maliba (both Mbombela United), Thabo Moseki (University of Pretoria), Bonginkosi Makume and Siseko Manana (both free agents).
