Pule delighted with Soweto derby goal

Orlando Pirates forward Vincent Pule has spoken of his “dream” goal in the Soweto Derby on Saturday as he continued an excellent start to the new season.

Pule netted a tap-in after being brilliantly set-up by Pirates’ Zambian duo of Augustine Mulenga and Justin Shonga, the goal which gave The Buccaneers a lead they never relinquished.

“It was a special moment to score a derby goal. I will definitely remember this one for a very long time,” Pule told his club’s website.

“We have all grown up watching this game and it has always been a dream to play in it, so having that chance and also scoring and winning the game made it a great weekend for me.”

Pule, who joined Pirates from BidVest Wits at the start of the season, gave praise to the players who laid the ball on a plate for him.

“Shonga’s inside pass to Mulenga was very good, and in that position we all know how dangerous Mulenga can be. He’s such a clever player,” Pule said.

“When Khune came out and Mulenga picked the pass, I was in the right place at the right time for the finish. It was a nice finish to a great build up.”

Pule has now scored five goals in his last seven appearances for Pirates and is their leading marksman this season.

He will be next in action when Pirates travel to AmaZulu in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals on Saturday.
