Points will do if Chiefs not playing ‘beautifully’

Kaizer Chiefs' top priority is to play “beautifully” and win, said coach Giovanni Solinas after scrapping through against Black Leopards in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday night, but if that does not prove possible then three points in an ugly win will suffice.

“My target is to play beautiful football and to get a positive result but the reality is that that is not always possible. Now is the moment that Chiefs need to get results,” he said after Chiefs snapped a run of four league games without a win and moved up onto the top four of the Absa Premiership after Willard Katsande’s 40th minute winner at Soccer City.

“It was a difficult game. Black Leopards created a lot of problems for us, they played very well.

“I’m happy for the result – but we need to improve our scoring. Again we created a lot of chances and we should have scored a second goal to kill the game.

“I was happy with the fighting spirit of the players and the fact we did not concede a goal,” Solinas added, “but once we are in the (opposing) box, we need to show more determination. If we had converted our chances we would have killed off the game.”

Solinas said that after a limp performance in the derby defeat to Orlando Pirates at the end of last month, his players better understood the need to be more combative.

“Sometimes in football you need these kind of performances where you don’t really play well but you fight for the result.”
