Mazembe look to brush aside Ismaily

TP Mazembe will square off with Ismaily in the 2018-19 Caf Champions League group C match at the Stade TP Mazembe in DR Congo on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 3:00 pm CAT.

The DR Congolese giants secured their place in the group stage after defeating Zambian outfit Zesco United in the first round, having been exempted from the preliminary round.

Mazembe are making their first appearance in the group stage of the continental competition since 2015, having won the tournament five times.

The club is still under the guidance of accomplished Congolese coach Pamphile Mihayo Kazembe, who led the team to the 2017 Caf Confederation Cup title.

The Ravens have announced that their star striker Ben Malango is set to miss the clash against Ismaily after he picked up an injury during the return match against Zesco.

"His condition requires a minimum of three to six weeks of care before reassessing the need for another treatment," said Jean Michel Kazadi, senior doctor of the club.

Mazembe have an incredible unbeaten record in the Champions League as they are undefeated in their last 40 games in DR Congo, and they will be looking to extend it.

Meanwhile, Ismaily reached the last 16 after defeating Burundian club Le Messager Ngozi and Cameroonian giants Cotonsport in the qualifying rounds.

The Egyptian side are making their maiden appearance in the group stage since 2009, having won the tournament in 1969.

Ismaily recently beefed up their squad by signing Mahmoud Dunga from Egyptian giants Zamalek and the midfielder is keen to make his new club proud.

“I started my career at Ismaily, so the club is not new to me,” Dunga said,.

“I would like to thank the club’s chairman Ibrahim Othman, he’s been working on this deal for two months and I hope I can make him proud.”

Ismaily will be looking to improve their away record in the Champions League as they have lost four of their last five matches on the road in the competition.
