Kaizer Chiefs hope for Magic of the Nedbank Cup

Kaizer Chiefs will again take on third-tier opposition when they travel to Cape Town to meet Western Cape ABC Motsepe League side The Magic in the Last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.

The AmaKhosi labored to beat Tornado FC in the last round, needing a penalty in extra-time, and now come against a side that have also proven stubborn opponents after taking National First Division Maccabi FC to penalties after a 0-0 draw in the previous stage.

The Magic have plenty of familiar names – they are co-owned by former Bafana Bafana striker George Dearnaley, have ex-Bafana midfielder Thando Mngomeni in their side and are coached by former Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer.

It is one of three games that will be staged in the Mother City after Cape Town City drew Highlands Park and second-tier Cape Umoya United take on fellow NFD outfit Mbombela United.

BidVest Wits have a difficult away-day as they travel to Black Leopards in what is likely to be another electric atmosphere at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

Leopards are difficult to beat at home and it will be a huge test for Gavin Hunt’s side.

The other top-flight sides all meet NFD opposition as Lamontville Golden Arrows travel to Shakes Mashaba’s Witbank Spurs, Chippa United host Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and Bloemfontein Celtic welcome Richards Bay.

There are also two games involving NFD teams as Cape Umoya United entertain Mbombela United and Jomo Cosmos welcome TS Galaxy.

The exact dates and venues for the Last 16 matches will be announced by the PSL in due course, but the matches are scheduled to be played the week of February 13-17.
