Van der Mark doubles up at Donington

Michael van der Mark won WSBK’s Race 2 at Donington Park while rookie Toprak Razgatlioglu impressed with second place on Sunday.

The Dutchman was joined by Alex Lowes and defending WSBK champion Jonathan Rea at the head of the race after 11 laps.

With Lowes in front, an aggressive Rea dove down the inside on lap 15 but couldn’t make it stick, letting Lowes back in on the exit. But Rea never gave up and passed Lowes on the next turn, pulling van der Mark along with him.

The Yamaha rider reeled Rea in around the Melbourne Loop a couple laps later and pushed ahead in splendid isolation.

Razgatlioglu - who had already passed Lowes - then added to Rea’s woes, edging past the Northern Irishman on the final lap to secure the first ever podium finish for a Turkish ider in WSBK history.

However, Rea’s third place extends his lead to 64 points over Chaz Davies in the riders’ championship, while van der Mark moves into tied for third with Tom Sykes.
