Euro Wrap: Schalks steal the show against Bath



Former Stormers duo and namesakes Schalk Burger and Schalk Brits scored tries as Saracens eased to a 41-6 Premiership win over Bath, who had another former Western Province forward in their starting XV, Francois Louw.

Former Lions duo Josh Strauss and Faf de Klerk as well as ex-Bulls stalwart Jono Ross started for Sale as the Salford-based side succumbed 35-30 to Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park on Friday.

Ex-Lions No 8 Ruan Ackermann came off the bench and scored a try for Gloucester in their 37-9 win over Harlequins at Kingston Park on Saturday.

Former Sharks scrumhalf Cobus Reinach played a starring role in Northampton's 27-21 victory over Leicester Tigers on Saturday, scoring a try as the Saints recorded their first success at Welford Road in seven years.

Ex-Cheetahs and Blue Bulls scrum-half Piet van Zyl and former Lions lock Franco van der Merwe were in a London Irish side comprehensively beaten 45-5 by ex-Western Province and Stormers back-row Don Armand's Exeter Chiefs at the Madejski Stadium on Sunday.

In the Top 14, a Lyon side including ex-Sharks forward Ettiene Oosthuizen romped to a 44-3 victory over another former Sharks' forward Willem Alberts' Stade Fran├žais side.

Former Sharks and Kings back Jaco van Tonder got himself on the scoresheet for Clermont as the Top 14 champions beat Bordeaux-Begles 33-3 at Parc des Sports Marcel Michelin.

Ex-Lions lock Johan Snyman formed the second-row combination with former Sharks enforcer Peet Marais as Brive went down 40-17 to an Oyonnax side who had ex-Sharks and Kings lock Steven Sykes coming off the bench.

Ex-Springboks, Stormers and Lions scrum-half Ricky Januarie lined up for Agen as they dispatched of Pau 33-22 at Stade Armandie.

Meanwhile, Springboks and ex-Cheetahs and Stormers No 8 Duane Vermeulen lined up for Toulon in their 32-17 victory over a Montpellier side who had ex-Blue Bulls lock Nicolaas Janse van Rensburg in their ranks.

Former Stormers lock Gerbrandt Grobler lined up for Munster on Friday as they became only the second team to beat the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Former Cheetahs hooker Richardt Strauss scored a try for Leinster as they suffered a shock 15-17 defeat to Benetton Rugby at the RDS Arena on Saturday.

Ex-Cheetahs flank Johan Mayer turned out for Zebre as the Italian outfit overcame the Dragons 34-32 at Stadio Sergio Lianfranchi.

Former Blue Bulls winger Duhan van der Merwe scored a try as Edinburgh romped to a 52-14 win over Scarlets at Murrayfield on Saturday.
