Bulls’ Van Vuuren cited

Vodacom Bulls prop Conraad Van Vuuren has been cited for his head-high tackle on Damian McKenzie during the Bulls loss against the Chiefs in Hamilton on Friday.

Van Vuuren was cited by the Citing Commissioner after the incident was deemed a red card offence and will face a disciplinary on Sunday.

A statement from Sanzaar detailed the charge against Van Vuuren.

“Conraad Van Vuuren of the Bulls has been cited for alleged foul play during a Super Rugby match at the weekend,” the statement said.

“Van Vuuren is alleged to have contravened Law 9.13 - a player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously, during the match between the Chiefs and Bulls at FMG Stadium Waikato in Hamilton on 16 March 2018.

“The referee for the match, Shuhei Kubo, issued a Yellow Card for the incident which occurred in the 67th minute.

“Upon further review of the match footage, the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the Red Card threshold for foul play.

“The Case is to be considered in the first instance by the SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee which will take place on Sunday 18 March via video-conference.

“All SANZAAR disciplinary matters are in the first instance referred to the Foul Play Review Committee to provide the option of expediting the judicial process.

“For a matter to be dispensed with at this hearing, the person appearing must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by the Foul Play Review Committee.”

The Bulls have one tour match left – against the Crusaders – on Friday.
