Good day for SA's Davis Cup players at Futures 3

Nik Scholtz and Ruan Roelofse are through to the quarterfinals of the Digicall Futures 3 tennis tournament.

It is the last of the three international tournaments played at the Coetzenburg courts of the Stellenbosch University.

Both Scholtz and Roelofse are regular players for the SA Davis Cup team.

Roelofse beat fellow countryman Lance-Pierre du Toit in a 100-minute battle to win 6-2, 7-6. Roelofse looks pretty good on court and he will have to be at his best to beat German Sebastian Prechtel who never gives up. Prechtel already eliminated another South African when he got the better of qualifier Christiaan Worst. The score was 7-6, 6-4 after two hours of play.

Scholtz played his best tennis thus far when he beat American Connor Farren 6-4, 6-4. Farren played in the final last week. Scholtz needed over 90 minutes to win and advance to the next round.

Top seed Benjamin Lock also booked his spot in the next round by demolishing American qualifier Bradly Holt 6-0, 6-0.

It all went as planned for the top women in the tournament with the top eight women through to the quarterfinals.

Double champion Ekaterina Makarova (RUS, 1), first tournaments finalist Anastasia Shaulskaya (RUS, 3) and last week finalist Alice Gillan (GBR, 8) are all in the next round.
